Creative Activism - Presentation by Raffaela
Your activism strategy
In 9 steps you will work out where and how you can move the animal rights movement forward most effectively.
Welcome back. You have saved answers.
1. Your WHY in activism
No pressure, just start writing. You can change everything later.
2. Your interests & skills
2a. My strongest interests (top 3)
What are you passionate about, also outside of activism?
2b. My skills (top 3)
What are you especially good at? Professionally or privately.
3. Your activism niche
Where your problem, your interests and your skills overlap
Pick a suggestion or write your own idea:
4. Your most effective lever
The scale of decision: everyone stands between obstacles and conscience. Your activism can work on either side.
Which side of the scale do you want to work on?
Which obstacles do you want to lower?
Which concrete actions suit you? (optional)
5. Your life project (5–10 years)
What could you build over the long run that solves your problem and fits your niche?
6. Your missions (monthly)
Concrete, measurable milestones — the SMART principle
7. Your habits (daily and weekly)
Small, repeatable actions that bring you closer to your life project
8. Feasibility check
Be honest with yourself: what is still holding you back?
9. Measuring success
Phrase your goal along the SMART principle, so you can actually measure your progress.

What is activism?
You have seen what happens to the animals 😱 And now you want to do something? We know the feeling, it was the same for us. Rather than drowning in that grief, you can channel your sadness and your anger into animal rights activism with us.
Activism does not have to mean standing on the street. Activism is anything that creates friction against the norm of animal slavery. There is something for everyone — a way to move the animal rights movement forward with your own strengths ✊🏼
Our job as activists is to tip the scales towards veganism: either by raising the discomfort of non-vegans, or by making a life without animal slavery easier to reach — ideally both:
Forms of activism

Online Activism

With the internet, our animal rights generation has gained an enormously powerful "weapon" for maximizing reach that no one before us had. Therefore, for all the following forms of activism: What is not posted online has virtually never happened ❗
Online activism encompasses all digital measures to promote animal rights: creating and sharing viral videos on social media, blogs, newsletters, etc. 📱 The goal is to reach as many people as possible, draw attention to abuses, and initiate action.
➕ Pros:
- Broad reach with low financial effort
- Content is scalable and permanently available
- Activism can be done anonymously or with a face
- Low entry barrier, can be done regardless of location
➖ Cons:
- Content competes with high digital noise
- Activism often remains limited to information dissemination; calls to action ("Live vegan") must be integrated
- Dealing with negative comments
- Dependence on platform rules (e.g., regarding depictions of animal cruelty)
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Short, emotional videos with a clear message (15-60 sec.)
- Link engaging short videos in your bio, e.g., this one 👀
- Catchy thumbnails and captions increase click and playback rates
- Storytelling instead of pure facts increases engagement
- Crossposting on multiple platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, ...)
- Highly recommended TikTok course 👀

Street activism, e.g. NEON protest

By street activism, we mean actions in public spaces where people are confronted with their responsibility. The goal is to directly reach passers-by, evoke emotions, and initiate conversations. This often involves using images or video footage from the animal industry.
➕ Pros:
- Direct contact with people, high conversational impact
- Visibility also for people who are not active online
- Authentic atmosphere through personal presence
➖ Cons:
- High organizational and personnel effort
- Veganism as the central message often doesn't resonate with passers-by, needing clear signage.
- Weather-dependent
- Reach often locally limited if not documented
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Professionally film the action or use a good smartphone to create social media reels or YouTube videos
- Interviews with activists and passers-by increase authenticity
- Livestreams boost direct reach
Educating children

Children are not yet as indoctrinated by the non-vegan world. Therefore, there is a great opportunity to instill values such as compassion, justice, and responsibility in them early on. Education on animal rights can take place in kindergartens and schools, through books, and also on the street. The goal is to inform children in an age-appropriate way – without fear, but with clarity.
➕ Pros:
- Long-term impact through early value education
- Children are open and curious, easily reachable
- Promotes empathy and critical thinking
- Can be designed playfully and creatively
- Easily combined with school lessons, family activities, or online media
➖ Cons:
- May require pedagogical knowledge and age-appropriate language
- Topics must be conveyed sensitively
- Limited access to schools or educational institutions
- Risk of parents undermining positive influence
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Short, colorful videos or animated clips are ideal for children
- Tell stories, comics, and songs about animals in a child-friendly way
- Use YouTube Kids, Instagram, or dedicated websites for educational purposes
- Design content to be positive and solution-oriented (compassion instead of guilt)
Example: Team Tierheit

Team Tierheit is a group of vegan parents, teachers, educators, and others who advocate for a just treatment of other sentient beings. The message conveyed is: Living vegan simply means not being mean to animals!

Cooking

Cooking as activism uses plant-based dishes to engage people emotionally, sensorially, and culturally. Through simple, healthy, and family-friendly recipes, it demonstrates that a diet free from animal exploitation is suitable for everyday life, delicious, and diverse. Instead of confrontation, the focus here is on inspiration.
➕ Pros:
- Low barrier to entry for interested individuals
- Positive, pleasure-based approach
- Ideal for online formats, but also for e.g. trade fairs
- Promotes long-term behavioral change through direct experience
➖ Cons:
- Less confrontational, therefore possibly less short-term mobilization
- Animal ethical message is often neglected, however, a combination of "Why vegan" and "How vegan" is crucial
- Hardly effective if cooking is only done in a private setting
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Recipes in Reels or TikToks with fast-paced editing and product placements, plus an animal ethical punch ➡️ see diemildeveganerin
- Focus on visual aesthetics: good lighting, clear camera settings, food close-ups
- Include shopping list and recipes in captions
Protests

Demonstrations are coordinated gatherings to demand political, social, or economic change. In the animal rights context, they range from silent marches to large-scale demonstrations and creative forms of protest involving banners, music, or installations. The goal is to reach the public and decision-makers and to build media pressure.
➕ Pros:
- Potentially high visibility in public spaces
- Signals strong social mobilization
- Potential for media attention (large demonstrations)
➖ Cons:
- Registration requirements must be observed
- High organizational effort
- Weather dependency and logistical complexity
- Silent demonstrations without a vegan message have little impact
- Success highly dependent on participant numbers and media-effective execution
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Create targeted content for social media on-site
- Drone footage or wide-angle videos create a strong visual impact
- Live reporting via Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube to generate viral momentum
- Record speeches and prepare them as short clips
Lectures

Lectures provide information on animal rights, ethics, or nutrition in a structured format. They can take place at schools, universities, trade fairs, conferences, or in online formats. The goal is to educate, raise awareness, and strengthen arguments.
➕ Pros:
- In-depth knowledge transfer possible
- Ideal for educational contexts and multipliers
- Opportunity to clearly explain complex issues
- Easy to plan and scalable (in-person or digital)
- Promotes factual dialogue instead of confrontation
➖ Cons:
- Limited reach per lecture without recording
- Impact depends on speaker competence and audience interest
- Preparation requires time and expertise
- Less spontaneous impact compared to visual actions
People in the educational sector can be multipliers for the topic of veganism 🧑🏫✊ That's why dear Annika has developed free teaching materials for primary schools (grades 2-4) as well as for grades 5-9 on the topic of empathy and animals - including preparatory materials for farm sanctuary visits. Everything is designed according to the "Education for Sustainable Development" (ESD) framework.
➡️ You can find the materials here ✅
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Record lectures with good audio and video, then publish as YouTube videos or podcasts
- Prepare key statements as Reels or TikTok clips
- Make slides or handouts available online (website, newsletter)
Design

Design activism uses visual design to convey messages clearly, memorably, and emotionally. This includes posters, banners, social media graphics, logos, stickers, merchandise, or flyers. The goal is to generate attention, condense content, and create recognition.
➕ Pros:
- Strong visual impact, quickly understood
- Versatile (online and offline)
- Supports all other forms of activism through branding and information dissemination
- Scalable: designs created once can be used many times
- Usable for viral spread via social media
➖ Cons:
- Effectiveness strongly depends on design quality
- Only for people with relevant expertise, but then potentially very effective
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Document poster campaigns or sticker campaigns and share them on social media
- Provide designs in multiple formats (e.g., portrait for stories, landscape for websites)
- Integrate hashtags, QR codes, and links to pages like WHY-VEGAN.COM and HOW-VEGAN.COM directly into the design
- Practical beginner tool: Canva 💻
Disruption

Disruptive activism aims to visibly interrupt social routines or economic processes to generate maximum attention. Examples: (slaughterhouse) blockades, disruptions at events or in consumer spaces, flash mobs. The goal is to break indifference and make moral urgency palpable 📣
➕ Pros:
- High media attention due to unusualness (applies to larger actions)
- Breaks routines and forces people to engage with the issue
- Low costs, often symbolically strong
➖ Cons:
- Legal risk (fines, charges, arrests possible)
- High organizational and security requirements
- Potentially stressful for activists
- Requires good preparation and media strategy to avoid being misunderstood
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Absolutely film and post actions, otherwise the potentially dangerous effort is not worth it!
- Communicate a clear message (have signs ready, describe on social media)
- Use live streams for maximum real-time impact
Donations

Online activism in particular needs money for technology, etc. 💸 Donations are a direct lever to support and promote structural changes. Those who donate regularly or strategically strengthen campaigns, legal aid, and the education of others. Donations cannot replace individual actions, but they can massively amplify their impact and give new opportunities to the people behind them ✨
Donations to sanctuaries and animal sponsorships can also be relevant, but donations should always be evaluated based on sustainable effectiveness.
➕ Pros:
- High impact when selecting targeted organizations
- Time-independent, plannable, and scalable
- Ideal for people with limited time capacities
- Optimal for people with capital (who wish to remain anonymous)
- Potentially tax-deductible for recognized organizations
➖ Cons:
- Impact depends on the effectiveness of the recipient organization
- Requires trust and research
Film & Online Tips for Maximizing Reach
- Publicly share your own donation decisions (e.g., story) with reasoning → inspires others
- Short video statements explaining why you donate to whom increase authenticity and the imitation effect
🤫 Do you celebrate what we do? Then support us on PayPal, we would be thrilled with your support! Every euro goes into video production and our goal to have the greatest possible impact for animal rights in this generation.
Please note: We are a business, not a non-profit organization. Therefore, your support does not qualify as a tax-deductible donation, and we cannot issue a donation receipt for it.
Animal Rescue

Animal rescues are actions carried out by activists to remove animals from facilities such as stables, fattening farms, or laboratories. Depending on the context, they operate outside the applicable legal limits. The aim of the actors is usually to draw attention to abuses, make the situation of the animals visible, and initiate social discussions about animal cruelty.
Possible effects of such actions (described from a societal perspective):
Potential positive effects (publicly discussed):
- Attention to conditions in animal husbandry farms
- Documentation of conditions that are otherwise difficult to access
- Triggering social and political debates
- Strong emotional and symbolic effect in public perception
Challenges and risks (legal and organizational):
- Possible conflicts with applicable law
- High demands on safety, responsibility, and logistical knowledge
- Difficult accommodation and medical care for rescued animals
Notes on media classification:
Organizations that document or analyze such actions often use:
- Journalistic processing (long-form, background reports)
- Short clips to contextualize images
- Clear classification to avoid misunderstandings
- Accompanying reporting on the fate of animals to create context
Product Development

Product development aims to create vegan alternatives to existing products. This includes food, clothing, cosmetics, materials, and technologies, among other things. The goal is to make animal abuse structurally unnecessary and to encourage consumers to switch through better options.
➕ Pros:
- Direct influence on markets and consumer behavior
- Lasting structural impact instead of isolated interventions
- High scalability for successful products
- Reaches people who would not switch through pure argumentation
➖ Cons:
- Often high development, capital, and time expenditure
- Strong competition
- Risk of compromises in ethical standards due to investor interests
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Document development processes
- Clearly tell product stories: Problem ➡️ Solution ➡️ Impact
- Create professional launch videos, ideally with social proof (testimonials)
Ethics Research

Ethical research is a form of activism rooted in the values of our society. It examines how moral principles can be applied to human-animal relationships and exposes current contradictions. This creates a clear foundation upon which political, legal, and social changes can be built. An important area is ethical research on animal testing. This questions whether and to what extent experiments on animals are morally and scientifically justified.
➕ Pros:
- Provides solid and sustainable arguments for other forms of activism
- Explains complex topics in an understandable and well-founded manner
- Lays the groundwork for long-term change
- Increases credibility in media, politics, and science
- Connects research with an activist goal
➖ Cons:
- Impact often only becomes apparent with a delay
- Without good communication, research reaches few people
- Requires expertise
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Explain research simply: short videos, animations, infographics
- Address animal ethics in talks, interviews, or live streams
- Disseminate key messages as reels, podcasts, or carousel posts
Politics

Political activism in animal rights aims to change laws and governmental structures. It includes lobbying, campaigns, petitions, participation in legislative processes, discussions with elected officials, and introducing ethical arguments into political debates. The goal is to achieve binding changes at a structural level.
➕ Pros:
- Long-term impact through legal changes 👩⚖️
- Leverage: a few political decisions affect millions of animals
- Political work creates binding frameworks for everyone
- Recognized and official path for change
➖ Cons:
- Slow processes and tough negotiations
- Political compromises can weaken content
- Requires expertise, strategy, and perseverance
Tips for maximizing reach:
- Professionally document political actions (e.g., petition handovers, speeches)
- Create explanatory videos on legislative initiatives, demands, or votes
- Publish statements as Reels
