We clarified the questions "What does vegan mean?" and "What is veganism?" right at the top of the page. But why should you actually live vegan? You can find out here:

The short answer: There is no ethically relevant difference between humans and non-human animals that would justify devaluing animals to slaves. That's why we live vegan.

Cows, pigs, chickens, and many other animals are at the slaughterhouse right now, terrified. This happens because people want to eat their body parts or secretions and buy other products and services for which animals are abused. Furthermore, people themselves actively abuse and murder other animals, for example, when hunting or fishing. Annually, over 80 billion land animals are slaughtered and well over 1.2 trillion fish and other aquatic creatures are annihilated - a mass murder.

Although humans can live healthily without animal products, they are usually deterred by one of the following reasons:

  • Taste
  • Convenience
  • Tradition and personal habit
  • Social pressure from the masses

Are these really sufficient justifications for abusing animals? Not really, are they? At the latest, the last two points also constitute fascism: One group (humans) declares itself superior based on an ethically irrelevant difference in characteristics (in this case, species) and thus oppresses others (non-human animals). This is maintained "because it has always been this way" and "because others do it too." You probably strongly oppose such systems in other contexts, right?
Then your mind and heart are already vegan, and now it's just about aligning your actions with that. Unlike what many think, veganism is much more than just a diet. In addition to animal foods, we also boycott animal abuse for clothing, cosmetics, entertainment, and other purposes. Anyone who acts in this way is by definition a vegan.

Definition of Veganism: Veganism is the ethical principle that humans should live without abusing other animals.

Vegans simply don't want animals to be abused for them. Doesn't sound so extreme, right? What is truly extreme, however, is that gas chambers still exist everywhere in Germany and around the world - only the victims look different and have different DNA. What unites us with them, however, is sentience. Pigs, calves, chicks, etc., just like dogs and cats, notice what is being done to them. They can feel joy, fear, and suffer. They have their own interests.

So why should we pet some as pets and abuse others as "livestock"? This irrational distinction is called speciesism, discrimination based on species membership - parallel to racism, but towards other animals. And it goes even further: Why do we protect ourselves with human rights but deny protection to other sentient beings? Why don't we create animal rights as a logical extension of human rights? There is no ethically relevant difference between humans and non-human animals that would justify devaluing animals to slaves. Anyone who wants to act anti-speciesist must live vegan. Because: animals are children, in different forms and colors.

Why vegetarianism is not enough? Animals are also abused, raped, and often murdered in the same slaughterhouses as for their meat for dairy products, eggs, leather or wool, for animal testing, in zoos, circuses, etc. And yes, this happens regardless of whether it is typical factory farming or organic farming. In addition, animals are persecuted, hunted, and fished in their natural habitats. The problem is not how someone is treated during their slavery, but that someone is considered property, an object of use, and a commodity at all. In the film Dominion you will learn the full, detailed truth. Be brave, watch it, and take responsibility! How many victims should your life still demand? Zero, or too many? If the answer is zero, you must live vegan from now on.

Okay, so vegan from now on. BUT HOW?! Don't worry, you don't have to eat grass; you can still enjoy pizza, burgers, kebabs, schnitzel, ice cream, cake, chocolate, cookies, and everything else you like. For all these delicacies, there are plant-based alternatives for which no one had to go to the slaughterhouse. We'll take you by the vegan hand: We have compiled more information and entry-level assistance for you on WIE VEGAN.
